VẠN THẾ SƯ BIỂU

The Seven Executions Memorial and leaving office

Chu Van An (1292-1370) was a distinguished educator, physician, and official of Dai Viet in the late Tran dynasty. Honored by UNESCO as a world cultural figure and regarded as a founding figure of Vietnam's Confucian scholarly tradition, he devoted his life to education. His philosophy emphasized humanism, equality in learning, the connection between study and practice, and the responsibility to use knowledge in service of society.

After Retired Emperor Tran Minh Tong passed away, the court under Tran Du Tong fell increasingly into disorder as corrupt officials gained influence and the people suffered. Guided by an uncompromising sense of integrity, Chu Van An submitted the That tram so, a memorial calling for the execution of seven corrupt officials, but his petition was rejected. He then removed his official hat, left the court, and withdrew to Phuong Hoang Mountain in Chi Linh, Hai Duong, where he continued teaching. His decision became an enduring symbol of self-respect and moral conviction.
